Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Police state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then found many other marked cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests indicate the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; officials are not yet informed of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they added.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for information.
A senior political figure said the incident rendered him speechless and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on social media, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a assailant targeting people of immigrant origin in 2020.
